Demonstrative Interventions Renewable Energy in Andros

Definition

Renewable Energy Sources (RES) per the European Directive 2001/77/EC, are the non-fossil renewable energy sources, which are produced by the wind, the sun, the earth, the waves, the tide, the water, the wastes and by the biomass. RES are replenished through the nature’s circle and are inexhaustible. These sources were used even from the ancient times all the time until the beginning of 20th century, when humans turned to fossil fuels and created many environmental problems.

In many countries already, RES consist an important energy source  highly contributing to their energy balance. In this way they are independent from fossil fuels such as oil and coal and they produce cheap and low cost energy while simultaneously have very stron reserves in case of emergency. Greece has a very high RES potential, which can realistically contribute in the covering a high percentage of the energy demand.
